Pratt & Whitney Canada is embarking on a groundbreaking journey to integrate hydrogen combustion technology into its PW127XT regional turboprop engine through the Hydrogen Advanced Design Engine Study (HyADES) project. With the support of Canada's Initiative for Sustainable Aviation Technology (INSAT), the project will focus on testing fuel nozzles and combustor rigs for hydrogen-fuelled operations, paving the way for full engine ground testing in subsequent phases. The PW127XT engine, known for its advancements in fuel efficiency, durability, and maintenance cost reduction, is set to showcase improved performance with hydrogen integration.
