In a groundbreaking move towards sustainable transportation, Abu Dhabi is preparing to launch a revolutionary fleet of electric and hydrogen-powered buses next month. As part of the city's ambitious targets, the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) aims to convert 20% of public transport to green technology by 2030 and achieve 100% environmental friendliness by 2050. Anan Alamri, a senior ITC official, announced this development during 'The Journey to Net Zero Forum,' emphasizing the importance of reducing harmful emissions and embracing eco-friendly solutions. The buses, serving undisclosed routes within Abu Dhabi, will maintain the current fare structure. The introduction of these buses signifies a shift away from traditional fossil fuel vehicles, with a focus on reducing pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions. Notably, hydrogen buses are highlighted for their emission of only water vapor, promoting a cleaner urban environment. Charging infrastructure has been strategically installed at bus depots to support the seamless operation of the zero-emission buses. During a panel discussion on sustainable mobility, Alamri revealed that this initiative marks the debut of hydrogen buses in Abu Dhabi's public transportation system. Emirati engineers underwent specialized training in China and South Korea to gain expertise in managing and servicing these advanced vehicles, reflecting Abu Dhabi's commitment to fostering local talent and embracing innovative technologies.
