FlixBus has recently launched a new daily route from Bruges to Eindhoven as part of its strategy to establish Bruges as a hub for international bus traffic. Responding to the demand for sustainable and affordable travel options in Europe, the company plans to expand its network towards Strasbourg and increase connections to Amsterdam. The Bruges–Eindhoven route, which takes approximately three hours, features environmentally friendly buses equipped with Euro 6 standard engines, providing passengers with amenities like free Wi-Fi, USB charging points, and extra legroom. The expansion of FlixBus' network aligns with the trend of cities strengthening connections through sustainable transport modes. Mobility expert Dirk Lauwers highlights the importance of bus transport in filling gaps in the network effectively and sustainably. Future expansions include the introduction of a new line to Strasbourg and doubling services to Amsterdam. The city of Bruges welcomes these developments, recognizing the benefits for both tourism and local residents. Alderman Minou Esquenet emphasizes the importance of ecologically responsible tourism and improved European city connections. FlixBus' strategic goal of strengthening its network in Belgium is supported by the increase in bookings from West Flanders and the company's focus on technology and sustainability. While the current routes do not feature hydrogen-powered buses, FlixBus is actively involved in sustainable initiatives, such as testing hydrogen-powered buses in collaboration with ZF Friedrichshafen. This aligns with the company's long-term strategy to provide emission-free mobility options.
