FOTON Mobility Distribution, led by CEO Neil Wang, is proceeding with plans to establish a bus-building center in Nowra, Australia. The proposed 6000 square metre facility on a 15,000 square metre plot will focus on manufacturing hydrogen fuel-cell power plants alongside other advanced technologies. At full capacity, the factory is expected to employ around 100 locals and produce over 400 buses annually for various operators, boosting local content within the Australian market. This initiative aligns with the NSW government's zero emission buses (ZEB) program, which includes the procurement of 126 battery-electric buses for greater Sydney and the conversion of existing bus depots to electric technology. FOTON's collaborative approach with local TAFEs and tertiary institutions aims to upskill the workforce and foster knowledge sharing in zero emissions transport. The company has also sponsored a PhD program in partnership with CSIRO and Federation University, focusing on developing hydrogen fuel systems suitable for various applications. The establishment of the Nowra facility marks a significant step towards promoting local manufacturing in New South Wales, supported by Transport for NSW and Minister Jo Haylen's vision of creating skilled manufacturing jobs within the clean energy sector.
