Hyundai Motor Company recently celebrated a significant milestone as the sales of its eco-friendly hydrogen electric bus, Elec City FCEV, surpassed 1,000 units, with the cumulative total reaching 1,032 by September 6, 2024. The company, which initiated hydrogen-related R&D back in 1998, introduced the world's first city hydrogen electric bus, Elec City FCEV, in 2019, followed by the high-speed Universe FCEV in 2023. The Elec City FCEV is designed for urban settings with features like a 180 kW fuel cell system, 875-liter hydrogen tank capacity, and a 78.4 kWh high-output battery. Each hydrogen bus's operation for a year can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 550 tons. Hyundai Motor Company recently held an appreciation event at the Namyang Technology Research Center in Hwaseong to commemorate the milestone, attended by bus transportation association chairpersons and representatives. The company aims to further promote hydrogen mobility by converting 2 metropolitan area buses to hydrogen buses by 2027 through a partnership with KD Transport Group.
