The Indian Navy and Indian Oil Corporation Limited have joined forces to test hydrogen fuel cell buses, with Indian Oil providing a state-of-the-art green hydrogen fuel cell bus to the Indian Navy for trials and performance testing. This initiative aims to promote hydrogen and fuel cell technology for heavy-duty e-mobility, positioning the Indian Navy as a pioneer in evaluating this technology. Both Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of Naval Staff, and S M Vaidya, Chairman of Indian Oil, expressed their enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting the importance of sustainability and environmental stewardship. The project will involve assessing the performance of fuel cell electric buses in the challenging climatic conditions of Delhi NCR, analyzing the impact of local fuel and air quality on the performance of fuel-cell systems and vehicles.
Indian Oil, a leading downstream company in India, is already operating 15 fuel cell buses in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat, with each bus expected to cover at least 20,000 km.
