Al-Ahsa Governor Prince Saud bin Talal bin Badr inaugurated the trial run of Saudi Arabia's first hydrogen-powered bus, connecting Dammam with Al-Ahsa in a daily 359-kilometer service operated by SATCO. The bus can travel up to 635 kilometers on a single charge, accommodating 45 passengers. The event, attended by Deputy Minister of Transport and Logistics Dr. Rumaih Al-Rumaih, highlighted the bus's eco-friendly features, safety standards, and contribution to reducing carbon emissions. Prince Saud emphasized the importance of this launch in advancing Saudi Vision 2030's environmental sustainability goals. Dr. Al-Rumaih spoke about the TGA's commitment to innovation, sustainable transportation, and reducing carbon emissions in alignment with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy. The collaboration between government entities and private sector partners, including Al-Majdouie-Hyundai, Saudi Aramco, Air Products, and Abdullah Hashim Company in this public-private partnership, sets the stage for further development of the transportation sector in Saudi Arabia. The inaugural event signifies a step towards promoting sustainability and modern technologies in transportation, following previous initiatives like issuing operational licenses for hydrogen-powered trains and launching hydrogen-powered taxis. The TGA's efforts aim to enhance Saudi Arabia's regional and global competitiveness through environmental initiatives like the Saudi Green Initiative.
