Abu Dhabi-based Fertiglobe has secured a bid to supply up to 397,000 tonnes of renewable ammonia to the European Union by 2033, with an initial supply of 19,500 tonnes scheduled for 2027 at an agreed price of $1,086 per tonne. This award represents a significant advancement in sustainable ammonia production and aligns with efforts towards decarbonisation in Europe, contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions equivalent to 62,000 cars annually. The project not only strengthens the European renewable ammonia market but also supports global low-carbon ammonia and hydrogen value chains, fostering the development of green hydrogen technology. Fertiglobe's successful initiatives include the shipment of internationally recognised renewable ammonia in 2023 and the production of the world's first bulk shipment of CCS-enabled certified low-carbon ammonia in May 2024. The company is also actively engaged in various low-carbon ammonia projects, such as the TA’ZIZ facility in Al Ruwais, undertaken in partnership with TA’ZIZ, Mitsui, and GS Energy. The collaboration between Fertiglobe, ADNOC, and Mitsui highlights the commitment to sustainable practices, as demonstrated by Mitsui's upcoming ammonia production facility in the UAE, recognizing ammonia's potential as a low-carbon fuel in various industries.
