Keppel Ltd has announced plans to upgrade a second gas turbine unit at the Keppel Merlimau Cogen combined cycle power plant (KMC) on Singapore's Jurong Island. The upgrade aims to enhance plant operations, increase efficiency, and extend maintenance intervals, reducing carbon emissions by 17,800 tCO2e per year. Supported by the Genco Energy Efficiency Grant, the project is set for completion by June 2025. The upgraded unit will be able to co-fire hydrogen blended with natural gas, supporting Singapore's decarbonization efforts. Keppel's CEO highlighted the company's commitment to energy efficiency and lowering carbon emissions, thanking EMA for their support. The project aligns with Singapore's goal of transitioning to low-carbon alternatives in electricity generation.
