- The station, supported by the Ministry of Environment, will play a crucial role in promoting the use of hydrogen buses for eco-friendly transportation.
SK E&S has successfully launched South Korea's first liquefied hydrogen (H2) fueling station in the Gyeonggi province to cater to the fueling needs of up to 120 buses daily. Operated by SK Plug Hyverse, a collaborative effort between SK E&S and Plug Power, the facility is part of a broader initiative to promote H2 applications across Asia. The station features a 4-ton liquefied hydrogen storage tank, cryogenic pumps, and two dispensers, enabling the refueling of six buses per hour. Construction of the station commenced in August 2023 as part of the Ministry of Environment's support project for hydrogen fueling infrastructure. Located in the parking lot of the SK Hynix Icheon Campus, the station will primarily serve commuter buses for SK Hynix employees. It will receive its hydrogen supply from SK E&S's Incheon Liquid Hydrogen Plant, the largest single-factory liquid hydrogen production facility globally, capable of generating 30,000 tons of liquid H2 annually. Vice President Soyeop Soo highlighted the station's significance in facilitating the adoption of hydrogen buses for large commercial vehicles and emphasized the potential expansion of such refueling stations with the increasing usage of hydrogen-powered vehicles.
