Renault's Ampere division has unveiled the Emblème concept car, a groundbreaking electric vehicle (EV) powered by a hydrogen fuel cell hybrid system. This innovation is part of Renault's mission to decarbonize the auto industry, with the Emblème promising a remarkable 90% reduction in carbon emissions over its entire lifespan. Ampere, Renault's sub-brand dedicated to the European EV program, takes a holistic approach to decarbonization, focusing on every phase of a vehicle's life cycle from sourcing materials to end-of-life disposal. The Emblème, showcased at the Mondial de l’Auto 2024, sets a new standard by emitting 90% less carbon than fossil fuel vehicles from production to recycling. Ampere achieves this through the use of low-carbon materials like steel, plastics, and aluminum, along with a sustainably sourced battery made of sulfate and nickel. The Emblème's drivetrain features a 160 kW electric system, a 40 kWh battery, and a hydrogen fuel cell. This unique setup allows the Emblème to operate as an EV for short trips and utilize hydrogen for longer journeys, providing a range of 620 miles with minimal emissions. Additionally, the Emblème's lightweight design, thanks to the smaller battery, contributes to reduced carbon emissions. Renault Group and Ampere are committed to carbon neutrality in Europe by 2040 and globally by 2050.
