Adani Energy Solutions Wins $324m Transmission Project for Green Hydrogen Facility in Gujarat
Key Ideas
  • Adani Energy Solutions, based in Ahmedabad, secures a Rs2,800 Cr transmission project to power a green hydrogen and ammonia facility in Gujarat.
  • The project includes upgrading substation, adding transformers, and building a 75km transmission line to connect to another substation.
  • India aims to produce 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030, with subsidies granted to companies like AM Green Ammonia and Waaree Clean Energy Solutions.
  • The government of India has allocated funds to support 450,000 tonnes per year of green hydrogen production under the SIGHT Programme.
Adani Energy Solutions, a prominent electric power company headquartered in Ahmedabad, India, has been awarded a significant transmission project worth Rs2,800 Cr ($324m). This project is intended to power a green hydrogen and green ammonia manufacturing facility in Gujarat. The project is set to be completed within three years and will provide green electrons for the production of both gases in Mundra. It involves upgrading the Navinal electrical substation by installing two large 765/400kV transformers and constructing a 75km 765kV double-circuit line to link this substation to the Bhuj substation. This initiative will increase the company's transmission lines by 150 circuit kilometres and its transformation capacity by 3,000 MVA. India has set ambitious targets, aiming to achieve 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen production annually by 2030. To support this goal, the Indian government has granted subsidy payments to nine companies for green hydrogen projects, with AM Green Ammonia and Waaree Clean Energy Solutions being among the top recipients of these subsidies. In line with this support, India has earmarked ₹22.39bn crores ($258.84m) to back the production of 450,000 tonnes per year of green hydrogen, the maximum allowable amount under the country's Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Programme.
