Himachal Pradesh's Groundbreaking Green Energy Project
Key Ideas
  • India's first integrated facility in Himachal Pradesh for API, Green Hydrogen, and 2G Ethanol is set to create 1000 jobs and propel the region towards green energy.
  • The API plant, powered by green hydrogen, will produce essential components for drugs targeting diseases like diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular ailments.
  • The project aligns with India's goal to achieve 20% ethanol blended petrol nationwide by 2025-26, utilizing 2nd generation ethanol from agri-residues.
  • The Pradhan Mantri JI-VAN Yojana provides financial support for companies establishing 2G ethanol biorefineries, promoting sustainable energy initiatives in the country.
India's first integrated manufacturing facility for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API), Green Hydrogen, and 2G Ethanol is set to be established in the Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh area in the Solan district of Himachal Pradesh. A memorandum of commitment was signed between the Himachal Pradesh government and M/s Spray Engineering Devices Limited for this groundbreaking project, which aims to create a sustainable ecosystem. The Rs 1400 crore investment in this venture is poised to generate 1000 jobs directly, boosting the employment sector in the region. The API plant within the facility will produce essential Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients that drive the intended effects of various drugs, particularly targeting illnesses like diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases. This plant will be powered by a green hydrogen plant, emphasizing environmental consciousness. The green hydrogen production process involves electrolysis to split water into hydrogen and oxygen molecules, with the energy sourced from renewable sources like sun, wind, or water. The project also focuses on 2nd Generation ethanol or 2G Ethanol production, in line with India's target of achieving 20% ethanol blended petrol nationwide by 2025-26. The utilization of agri-residues for ethanol production, as part of the 2nd generation ethanol initiative, is a step towards sustainability and reducing dependence on traditional sources. The Pradhan Mantri JI-VAN Yojana supports the establishment of 2G ethanol plants by providing financial aid to companies, aligning with the government's vision for promoting eco-friendly fuel alternatives. This innovative project in Himachal Pradesh signifies a significant step towards a greener and more sustainable future for the region and the country.
