India has taken a significant step towards green hydrogen production by awarding projects worth Rs 80,000 crore to nine companies under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) scheme. Among the companies selected for these projects are Reliance Green Hydrogen, L&T Energy, and Waaree Clean Energy. The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) issued letters of award to firms like Oriana Power, Matrix Gas and Renewables, GH2 Solar, and Suryadeep KA1 Project. These companies will establish green hydrogen facilities with varying annual capacities, with some firms like L&T Energy and Waaree Clean Energy receiving the highest capacity of 90,000 tonnes per year. SECI has provided significant incentives to companies such as AM Green Ammonia, Waaree, and Green Infra Renewable Energy Farms to support the development of these projects. The government's commitment to green hydrogen is evident in the Rs 2,238.59 crore allocated for financial incentives in this tranche. The scheme also includes a cap of 90,000 tonnes per year for individual bidders, with an expected investment of Rs 18,000-20,000 crore for every 1,00,000 tonnes of capacity. This initiative not only promotes renewable energy but also boosts the green hydrogen sector in India.
