India is making significant strides in boosting green hydrogen production by providing viability gap funding for electrolyser manufacturing capacity. The country has launched the National Green Hydrogen Mission with a substantial initial outlay to develop a green hydrogen production capacity of 5 MMT per annum. Contracts have already been awarded for 3,000 MW per annum for electrolyser manufacturing and 4,12,000 tons per annum for green hydrogen production. The mission aims to attract substantial investments, create numerous jobs, reduce fossil fuel imports, and abate greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, financial incentives are being provided through the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition Programme to promote domestic manufacturing of electrolysers and green hydrogen production. The mission will also support pilot projects in various sectors and regions to develop Green Hydrogen Hubs. Overall, India's focus on green hydrogen aligns with its ambitious goals for renewable energy expansion and reducing fossil fuel dependence.
