On January 8, 2025, NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) announced the formation of a new joint venture company, NTPC Rajasthan Green Energy Limited, in collaboration with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL). The primary aim of this joint venture is to develop, operate, and maintain renewable energy parks and projects in Rajasthan, including solar, wind, and hybrid projects with a capacity target of up to 25 GW. Additionally, the company plans to delve into green hydrogen production along with derivatives like green ammonia and green methanol, with a goal of up to 1 million tons production capacity. Approval for this venture was obtained from the Ministry of Power, DIPAM, and NITI Aayog, showcasing alignment with India's renewable energy objectives. NGEL holds a majority stake of 74% in the new company, with RVUNL holding the remaining 26%. This initiative by NTPC signifies a significant move towards enhancing its renewable energy portfolio and supporting India's transition to green energy by harnessing Rajasthan's renewable energy potential.
