The Laboratory of Structural Engineering & Sustainable Catalysis, operating under the chemistry department of North Bengal University (NBU) in Siliguri, India, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Hydrogen Innovation Pte Ltd from Singapore. This collaborative research project focuses on developing low-cost electro-catalysts for hydrogen generation and storage to make the fuel more accessible and sustainable. The initiative, led by Bhaskar Biswas, aims to revolutionize the current methods of producing hydrogen from water by improving affordability and scalability. The partnership, scheduled from March 2025 to February 2027, combines the expertise of academia and industry to address the challenges associated with traditional electro-catalyst materials for hydrogen fuel. The project has already yielded promising results with the development of around 20 catalysts, including the notable 'NBU-4'. The innovative approach targets simplification and sustainability in the hydrogen production process. Hydrogen Innovation Pte Ltd will provide financial support of 1,600 Singapore Dollars for the first two years and 800 SGD for the third year to aid in the research efforts. The company's Chief Technology Officer, Goutam Kumar Dalapati, highlighted the significance of developing low-cost materials to revolutionize hydrogen production, storage, and utilization. The collaboration envisions a future where hydrogen is a key player in sustainable and greener energy systems, fostering a positive sentiment towards hydrogen technology and its potential impact on the renewable energy sector.
