Sembcorp Industries and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) have joined forces in a 50:50 joint venture to introduce renewable energy and green hydrogen projects in India. The partnership, known as Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India Private Limited, will concentrate on developing initiatives related to renewable energy and green hydrogen, including green ammonia production. By leveraging Sembcorp's expertise in renewables and BPCL's knowledge of the petroleum sector, the collaboration aims to reduce emissions in port operations and advance emerging green fuel technologies. Vipul Tuli, President & CEO of Renewables at Sembcorp, expressed that the partnership is well-positioned to identify opportunities for decarbonizing challenging sectors. G Krishnakumar, chairman and managing director of BPCL, emphasized the significance of this collaboration in their sustainability efforts, especially as BPCL works towards achieving a net-zero energy status by 2040.
