Misr Fertilizers Production Company (MOPCO) in Egypt is embarking on significant projects to enhance its operations. One major initiative is the green hydrogen project, which will establish a new production facility for green ammonia in Damietta, Egypt. This project, led by a consortium including MOPCO, Scatec from Norway, and the Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM), aims to produce 150,000 tons of green ammonia annually by converting the green hydrogen produced. The green hydrogen facility will be situated in the Damietta Port area, adding to the existing ammonia production plants operated by MOPCO. Concurrently, MOPCO is expanding its factory to increase urea production capacity and efficiency, benefitting both its domestic and export markets. By 2027, MOPCO expects to complete both the green hydrogen project and the factory expansions, with a combined investment of around $400 million. The company's performance has been impressive, with achievements like meeting 100% of urea production targets in H1 2024 and surpassing ammonia sales expectations. With stable natural gas supplies, MOPCO anticipates further growth in production and exports in the coming years, solidifying its position in Egypt's fertilizer industry.
