In a significant move towards sustainable transportation, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has unveiled its first hydrogen-powered bus, with the aim of promoting environmentally friendly modes of travel. The test-run service was inaugurated by Al-Ahsa Governor Saud bin Talal, showcasing a commitment to eco-conscious transportation solutions. The initiative, led by the Saudi Transport General Authority (TGA), is part of a broader vision to foster innovation-driven programs that tackle environmental issues and enhance overall well-being. By launching the hydrogen bus service, the government is aligning with its policy to promote sustainable transportation methods and reduce carbon emissions, as outlined in the national transport services strategy. Apart from the hydrogen bus, TGA is actively introducing other green transport options such as electric and self-driving buses, as well as incorporating electric cars into rental services. Furthermore, Saudi Arabia has made strides in the eco-friendly transport sector by introducing its first hydrogen and electric trucks, along with hydrogen-powered taxis, all aimed at providing a clean and comfortable travel experience for passengers. Notably, the country has previously conducted test runs of hydrogen-powered trains in Riyadh, which have been commended for their emission-free operations and positive environmental impact. With a clear commitment to sustainable transport solutions, Saudi Arabia is positioning itself as a frontrunner in promoting eco-conscious transportation on a global scale.
